Hectic half term holidays!

Hectic half term holidays! It's been a strange week, work is really busy at this time but with my nephew's three children here it has been hard to fit everything in. We went up to London on Tuesday, visiting the Natural History museum and Harrods (where I explained to the kids that I got my very first stick insects). I have so many things to fit in today that I think something will have to give. I cannot believe that I slept in this morning! I woke at 6am fully intending to get up and write the blog but I fell back to sleep and was woken at almost 8am by my hubby, oh panic. Perhaps I should do the blog in 'bullet points' (short sentences, like a CV, my daughter goes on about them as a way of writing reports. She had a short stint as a recruitment consultant). Bugs are all going well. I have sold large numbers of cockroaches this week, they needed cutting down before the 'big move' into my new bug room. Hubby has had a few days off but he too has been ...

Snow again!

Snow again! I couldn't believe that everywhere was white on Monday morning. High Wycombe got a mention on the national weather as having '4" of snowfall overnight'. It is no joke with all the hills around here, I need a four wheel drive car but sadly I can't afford one! I have been very busy preparing for the bug move. My hubby has been working all week (his proper job) so he hasn't been able to work on the new bug room but I have been planning what I should and shouldn't keep. I am still hoping that everything will make the move but even if all the bugs do, some of my glass tanks are far too large and will definitely have to go. I was desperate to get out on Monday despite the snow, as I had arranged to sell all my Horse-head grasshoppers and adult stick insects at a knock down price to a reptile dealer friend in West London. Thankfully I managed to get there in one piece but I ended up swapping them for some new scorpions, more stock! Still, scorpions t...

A very busy week

A very busy week. I had a lovely birthday last Sunday but I don't seem to have stopped this week. I have again had lots of new stock arriving and I have ordered yet more for next week. Hopefully I will be getting some Giant Train millipedes at last but I can't get as many as I would like. I had fifty come in before but still I sold out quite quickly. Goodness knows where we are going to put everything when the new bug house (more of a bug room) is ready. It would have been so much easier if we had done it before Christmas, this is such a busy time of year. My hubby is hoping to take a few days off soon and really get on with things. He is off this weekend but there are lots of other things that we need to do. I am desperate to get on top of everything before half term. During the half term week my nephew's kids will be with me for a lot of the time. It will be very difficult to get much work done on top of the usual cleaning and feeding of the bugs. I have had lots of ...

Where to start?

Where to start? First day of February, Spring is only a month away! Just the thought of warmer weather makes me feel good. We haven't had any snow this week and I admit it is a bit warmer but it is still way too cold and far too wet for me. The tarantula show last Sunday was great as usual, it really is my favourite show. The venue is lovely, the people running it are lovely and the layout of the two halls is so much better than other shows. I bought some amazing new stock, mostly tarantulas and scorpions but a few stick insects, beetle larvae and true spiders too. My bug house is full to the rafters and I have yet more animals coming in next week. The indoor bug house is really taking shape, my hard working hubby has been flat out on his days off and yesterday my adorable nephew worked on it all day as well. He is a roofer by trade so they insulated the ceiling and put up a new plasterboard ceiling. Not an easy task as they had to make provision for the windows which are at c...
