Website changes to the tarantula section

Website changes to the tarantula section are almost complete. I just need to get to grips with it now. I did try yesterday but there were a few problems that needed ironing out and I got very confused. My super website guy is just so patient and calm with me (I don’t know how he does it). I am such a visual person, if I can’t see it, I can’t understand it but I will concentrate today and hopefully learn the basics of what I need to do to work the new system. It is really necessary as since the update to the tarantula section some time ago I have been unable to discount individual spiders and had to resort to setting up a separate “tarantulas special offer page”. The new system will be great once I get my head around it and can work it! I have way too many tarantulas and need to sort them out properly and sell off some stock. It is crazy the amount of time I spend feeding them each week and the amount I spend on crickets.

I know I keep going on about it but Spring is in the air. The egg sac that I collected in Cyprus last year has finally hatched into a cloud of tiny spiderlings. I can’t recall exactly what they were, I have a photo somewhere that I put on Facebook and somebody named the species for me. They were large Orb Web spiders, I will look it up and hopefully find the photo to put on this blog and also their name. As I am writing this a pretty little Blue Tit is examining the nesting box in the tree outside my office window. My hubby only yesterday set up a screen so that I can see the inside of the box again. The camera in the lid of the nesting box was able to be viewed on my computer screen last year but since getting the Apple computer it wasn’t compatible. The only problem now is that he couldn’t find the remote control for this screen so it is permanently switched on and I can’t turn the sound off. It is very distracting as I can hear everything in the garden, pigeons cooing, planes flying over, even the wind blowing in the trees. We will have to find the remote control this weekend, it will also make me clear up my office as we search, it must be somewhere on the shelves in here.

I mentioned Facebook just now, oh the joys of Facebook! I know it is important and I am happy to post bits and pieces. I enjoy seeing who has liked a post and reading comments but I just cannot cope with the stream of messages I get. I’m not sure what to do? My web address with most of the answers is on my Facebook page but I am constantly asked the same questions and although I answer what I can, I just have to ignore a number of them as there isn’t enough of me to go around. Using Facebook does not come easily to me but it isn’t all my fault. I have a private page and my work one but they seem to get jumbled on my phone? I look one minute and see a message and then when I go to answer it, I can’t find it again. I can’t see a solution at the moment so I shall try not to get too stressed (not easy for somebody who gets stressed about every event). Talking of events, I am going to the opticians this afternoon to try again with contact lenses. I hate wearing glasses and it is now 18 months since I tore my cornea when I took one of the lenses out. The cornea is scarred and I have to be super careful but I want to try and see if I can wear them. I loved my contact lenses but I am terrified of it happening again, I have never known pain like it.

I managed to lose an adult Haitian Brown tarantula this week in my bug room. They are the largest tarantulas that I have and are pretty aggressive when challenged. They are stocky and strong, this one managed to knock the lid off of it’s box. I searched everywhere and was a little worried when I couldn’t find her in any of the usual hiding places but that evening when I returned from helping at the youth club, there she was plodding around the floor with a large cockroach in her mouth. Unfortunately, as I tried to capture her in a tub she shot off and climbed up behind the radiator on the wall. I was less than pleased, it had been a long day and I just wanted to sit down. I did manage to coax her out a bit later with hubby’s help, this time she had a cricket in her mouth. It did occur to me that I could leave her out to clear up all the escapees in the bug room and keep her as a pet but hubby and our daughter were really not keen on that idea.

Lastly and on the subject of pets, my baby rats Pookie and Kookie are doing really well. I bought them a new cage (£85 from Pets at Home) and they are now to the side of my desk as I sit in my office. They are both very fast moving and can’t be easily handled yet but they are now coming up to the bars and taking food from my hand. They are gorgeous and at least I don’t have to take them for walks in the freezing cold, muddy, wet park. Didn’t I do well putting a photo from my phone onto the blog last week? I was so pleased with myself. Much as I moan about technology, I love it, I cannot imagine being without my iPhone, iPad and Apple Mac and I really don’t know how I ever lived without my best friend Google.

I’m off to get a cup of tea now, I’m freezing sitting here. It is nearly Spring – I think.
