On the mend

On the mend thank goodness but still needing to take things easier. A quick round up of my health issues as everyone has been so nice. Feeling a great deal better in myself but still worried about my back, I have an appointment with the physio in ten days time so should find out what I can and cannot do then. At the moment I am trying desperately not to lift anything too heavy but so many of the boxes in the bug room are heavy and there is nobody else here to help so I'm just trying to take care. I have been discharged from the eye hospital but I'm not sure if that is good or bad as it still hurts and my sight has not returned to normal as yet. I will be seeing my regular optician on Monday which will be good.

It is the AES (Amateur Entomologists' Society) annual exhibition tomorrow. The biggest bug show of the year. I have been up and down about going all week but I have now decided to go along. It is great to chat to everyone but I must take care and only buy things that I need. I really cannot get carried away and fill the car with new bugs as I generally do. Hubby will be with me to hold any bags and 'hopefully' keep me in check. Do feel free to stop me for a chat if you see me and I will have my phone on me (hopefully I will hear it but exhibitions can be noisy, if not I should feel it vibrate as it will be attached to my trouser belt). The show is always fun and lively, I just wish it were a few weeks later this year.

I have had some new bugs in this week, millipedes, tarantulas and large black scorpions. Everyone seems to be after large scorpions at the moment but now that I have a number of them in, they probably won't sell for ages. If only I could predict what will sell next! I have some super, small size spiders (I was going to say spiderlings but they are now months old and not that small). I bred them myself and am selling them really cheaply but they are just not going. Each week I feed them in their multitude of little pots and it takes ages. I don't understand why they are not selling? Top sellers at the moment seem to be larger tarantulas, scorpions, millipedes and cockroaches. I have also sold a fair few stick insects over the last few weeks and yet I couldn't give them away when I wanted to cut down before my holiday in July!

I was delighted this week when I discovered that my newly mated Madagascar Fishing spider has laid an egg sac, as I said last week I do think they are really pretty spiders. I would like to get some more 'true' spiders as opposed to tarantulas at the show tomorrow. I find them really interesting.

I need to speed up as I am so behind and there is always plenty to do. Doesn't anyone want a baby Corn snake or two? The snakes are taking up so much time, I have bought them all new homes this week, their food is costing me and I haven't homed a single one. I really won't let my male and female snakes anywhere near each other at breeding time next year, I promise. I am certainly no business woman, honestly what am I doing with all these unwanted snakes and spiders? Or more to the point what am I going to do with them?

We did have a laugh this week with my back exercises that the physio gave me before she went away on holiday. I daren't start doing them until I had got the backlog of orders posted off on Monday. I then got hubby to stand by as I was so scared that the exercises would send my back into spasm again. They were in fact absolutely fine so I said "right I will do them again at lunch time and after dinner, I think three times a day will be fine". Hubby then read on the sheet that the exercises were to be done 3-5 times per WEEK and on the bottom of the sheet the physio had written "pace yourself!". People are always telling me how brave I am with all these spiders and scorpions but I am just not scared of them. In truth I am a total coward and I have discovered in the last couple of weeks that I really don't like pain!

Perhaps see some of you tomorrow and thanks again for all your best wishes and support x
