Almost Autumn, summer is nearly over

Almost Autumn, summer is nearly over. The plants will start to die down and I will once again be scrambling around under bushes for fresh bramble. I have been trying to cut back on stick insects for some time but they are not cooperating, the damn things keep breeding. I still have way too many and they are so jumbled up that I no longer know which species they are. If only I could sell them all, I'd be a millionaire. That is the thing with my business, sadly nobody pays me for simply looking after all the animals and when sales are low that is exactly what I am spending most of my time doing! July and August have been my worst months this year, even January had higher sales than these summer months. I think the Olympics has affected my business and I think too that the weather has been so poor that quite a few people have gone abroad on holiday. Things have picked up a little in the last couple of days, long may it continue. All the bugs are thriving and new stock is arriving c...

Two weeks to catch up on.

Two weeks to catch up on. All is well in the bug house and I am in the process of building up my animals again as the school holidays will soon be over. I now have a large stock of Giant Train millipedes, it would be great to get these breeding. I checked on my Ghana Fire Red baby millipedes a couple of days ago and they are looking good. They are still in the 'white nymph' stage but they are munching away on leaves so they should moult and grow into proper little millipedes soon. I nearly came a cropper checking on them as I pulled two boxes off the shelf together, the boxes were extremely heavy and unfortunately one slid off the other and hit me full on the nose. My nose made a very loud crack and I thought I had broken it, luckily it wasn't broken but it is a bit sore. I will certainly take them down one at a time in the future! I have some nice Brachypelma spiders arriving today, they will go on the site a little later. I am once again writing this blog a day early as...

No blog this week

Sorry, no blog this week, lots to say but no time to say it! I have been at a funeral down in Kent today and now have a lot to catch up on as I am out tomorrow and then at a reptile show on Sunday.

Still enjoying the Olympics, aren't Team GB doing well!

Still enjoying the Olympics, aren't Team GB doing well! The trampolining last week was amazing even though there were no British competitors, it was just great to be there. I have won tickets to the Paralympic swimming next month, we will be going to the Olympic village and it includes an overnight stay in Covent Garden so should be a super trip. Back to the bugs, with everyone away and watching the Olympics, business is still slow so I am continuing to enjoy the school summer holidays. I have been out and about with my nephew's three kids this week, I am again writing the blog early as we are off to Roald Dahl's museum tomorrow (yes, another competition win). In between all this fun I am still constantly feeding and cleaning the bugs and they are continuing to flourish. My tarantula breeding is going pretty well this year. I discovered that my Violet Tree spider was carrying around an egg sac and I'm not sure if my Cameroon Baboon has an egg sac or has just decided to...

Watching our Olympic gymnasts win a medal was amazing!

Watching our Olympic gymnasts win a medal was amazing! We had a fantastic time on Monday, for a few minutes Great Britain had the silver medal but then came the enquiry and Team GB were awarded bronze. The atmosphere was electric in the stadium and I am back there tomorrow watching the men's trampolining, again with my daughter. We both recall a conversation that we had years ago when it was first announced that London was to host the Olympic games. Georgie was about 11 or 12 and begged me to take her to watch. I said "by then you will be taking me" and sure enough she is now 20 and I made her drive down to London to catch the Tube! I am writing this blog a day early as I won't be around tomorrow. I still have very few orders but plenty of things to do. We are helping our son move on Saturday and next week I will again be out and about for a couple of days. I will be posting orders on Monday and Thursday (possibly Wednesday too). Thankfully I haven't had any prob...
