Common Name: Fruit Flies
Scientific Name: (Drosophila species)
Status: Captive Bred
The pot of fruit flies will contain many larvae and generally pupae too (but they may get disturbed during transit). Just leave the pot in a warm place and add a small piece of fruit (banana is ideal) about once a week. The flies will continue to hatch and breed indefinitely like this but they must be kept warm or the fruit may go mouldy.
It is very easy to make up new colonies simply by putting fruit in another pot alongside the original ones, you will soon see larvae appear on the fruit. I tend to put a single pot in with each of my young fly eating bugs, that way they will always have a source of food. It is not easy to catch fruit flies once they have hatched!
